We often find ourselves busy, scrambling through work — the phone rings, colleagues chatter, your boss wants the report on his desk, maybe you've encountered a few difficult clients over the last couple of days, and you feel you can't keep up with all this rushing through life. You get home after a long, stressful day, throw your keys on the counter, and switch on the kettle. You get into comfortable clothes and, with your delicious cup of coffee, sit on the couch — and suddenly it hits you. Thoughts start travelling through your mind:
I want to do more!
Or maybe you often think:
I am not good enough…
Perhaps you feel like your roots have become weak, or that they're only sprawled on the surface of the hard ground, and you become a little unsteady — afraid that if the wind blows a little too hard, you'll come tumbling down.
But let me tell you this: just like a tree needs strong roots to grow tall, success in life and business starts with the right foundation — your mindset, your habits, your values. Maybe you do have strong roots that have been growing deep; sometimes a little renewal is all that's needed to keep them strong.
Here's how you can build or strengthen your foundation for long-term success.
Our mindset is one of our biggest limitations to growth, so we need to ensure it aligns with our resilience and growth. Sometimes growth comes with change, and sometimes we're too afraid to accept change because we fear the outcome — but we have to start accepting change, because with change comes growth!
We also need to remember our core values, because if we can identify them, we can guide the decisions we make and the actions we take. This journey is for personal and professional growth — and if we can identify our personal core values, we're halfway to growing professionally.
Our personal core values:
Our business and leadership core values:
Replace the negative thoughts you whisper to yourself in front of the mirror — "I'm not good enough" or "I can't change" — with empowering words like "I am capable of growth and renewal" or "with change comes growth." There is power in the words we think and say: if we speak and think positively, positive outcomes follow.
To grow your roots deeper and stronger, start with daily practices: show gratitude towards people regardless of their attitude towards you, commit to goal-setting and strive to achieve those goals, and reflect on your personal and professional growth. Journal your journey — note where you started and how far you've come.
We often want to grow overnight, pushing the process and making enormous changes all at once. For those who watched the Friday Training on Sales Cycles, remember Susan's video of the apple tree growing — faced with the changing seasons over a long period, what happened? The tree grew beautifully and bore perfect apples. Small, consistent changes lead to long-term transformation!
I know — we don't want to show people our flaws and imperfections. We hide our dry, crumbling roots beneath the soil so no one can see we're a little damaged and due for renewal. But let's embrace that process. Let's help each other renew our roots, and let us help each other grow.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Don't allow yourself to burn out. Don't become a tree that lost its ability to ever grow again. Take your break, just as the colourful leaves tumble to the ground in autumn — allow yourself to renew and embrace the change, just as the tree embraces fresh green leaves in spring.
Strong trees with deep roots stay flexible in the face of challenges. We've all seen a tree thrashing around in a strong gust of wind and thought, "Oh dear, that tree is going to break" — but it never does. Why? Because its roots are so deep that the wind and the storm cannot throw it over.
Be a strong tree amid a challenging storm: stand tight, bury those roots deep, and say "I ain't falling today!"
Stay grounded in your purpose while remaining open to new opportunities. With a strong foundation, strong habits and values, and a renewed mindset, you create lasting success from the ground up. Take a moment today to reflect on your foundation, in your personal life or your business: what habits, values, or beliefs need renewal? 🌿✨
