Candidate property practitioners used to complete a 12-month internship and an intern logbook, and submit the logbook to the regulator. The rules changed on 1 July 2024, and the question that decides what applies to you is simple: when was your first Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC) issued?
First FFC issued before 1 July 2024: the logbook still applies
You still complete the logbook, but you no longer submit it to the PPRA. The PPRA stopped accepting logbooks from 1 July 2024. Instead:
- Complete your 12-month internship and your logbook.
- You and your principal or mentor sign the PPRA's standard letter confirming that you have completed the internship and the logbook.
- Email the signed letter to logbooks@theppra.org.za for approval.
- Keep the logbook itself at your agency, in case the PPRA asks to see it.
Use the current version of the PPRA's letter, from the PPRA forms page. An old version of the template can hold up your approval.
Why does my logbook still say EAAB?
The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) became the PPRA. The logbook and its templates belong to the system you registered under, which is why they still carry the old name. The name change on its own did not change what you have to complete. If you registered before 1 July 2024, the logbook and its materials still apply to you.
First FFC issued on or after 1 July 2024: no logbook
You do not do a logbook. Instead you complete a practical training course of up to six modules, over a maximum of six months, within 180 days of your FFC being issued. A registered mentor, usually your principal or a qualified agent, guides you through the practical activities and signs them off.
This workplace training is similar to a logbook, but it is not the logbook, and the difference matters to the PPRA. Make sure you are doing the programme that matches your FFC date.
Not sure which applies to you?
Log in to MyPPRA and check the date your first FFC was issued. If it falls close to 1 July 2024, or your record looks wrong, ask us before you start, so you do not spend a year on the wrong programme.
How we can help
- First FFC before 1 July 2024: the Introduction to Intern Logbook Workshop shows you what goes in each section of the logbook, what evidence counts and how to finish it within the year.
- First FFC on or after 1 July 2024: Workplace Training gives you the structured workbook for the practical modules, with mentor sign-off built in.
Whichever applies, the next steps are your NQF4 and the PDE 4. See the NQF4 assessment process and how to prepare for the PDE.
