The FETC: Real Estate (NQF4, SAQA 59097) is made up of core, elective and fundamental unit standards. The fundamentals cover language and numeracy. If you already hold a South African matric certificate, you may not need to be assessed on them again. The CAT exemption form is how that exemption is applied for.
When you need the form
If you included your matric certificate in your Portfolio of Evidence (POE), your assessor treats you as exempt from the fundamental unit standards your matric covers, and does not assess them. For that exemption to stand, the CAT exemption application form must be completed and signed by you.
In general, a matric exempts you from the language fundamentals, and a matric with mathematics also exempts you from the numeracy fundamentals. Your assessor works out exactly which apply from the documents in your portfolio.
No matric in your portfolio? Then the CAT form does not apply, and you complete the fundamental unit standards in your POE like the rest of it.
How to complete it
You only fill in two pages:
- The first page: your personal details.
- The last page: sign where it says Applicant Signature.
Leave the rest of the form blank. Your assessor or moderator completes it from the documents in your portfolio.
How to submit it
Upload the completed, signed form using the upload link we emailed you for your portfolio. The online link is the quickest way to get documents to us, and it keeps everything with your file.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out the certified matric certificate. The exemption depends on it, so make sure a certified copy is in your portfolio.
- Filling in the assessor's sections. Only the first and last pages are yours.
- Forgetting to sign. An unsigned form cannot be used, and your file waits until it is signed.
